LOGAN – This is the 10th anniversary season for the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra and it concludes on Saturday, April 7 with a deeply moving concert Craig Jessop said you will not want to miss.

Jessop, dean of the College of Arts at Utah State University who created the popular music organization, is also conducting the concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Newell and Jean Daines Concert Hall of the USU Fine Arts Center.

Jessop talked about the concert and about the oratorios of Ralph Vaughan Williams, which he wrote after the destruction of World War One.

“Upon the return back to England having seen the true horrors of war, he wrote a composition called ‘Sancta Civitas, The Holy City’,” Jessop said. “The text is from the Book of Revelation of St. John in the New Testament and talks about the destruction of Babylon, Babylon representing the evil found on the earth. In its place, descending from heaven, is the New Jerusalem, the Holy City … Sancta Civitas.”

Jessop said this is Williams’ least performed work, partly because it requires three separate choirs.

Concert tickets range in price from $15 to $39 and children 8 years old and older are welcome.
